Project Overview: MyPearsonStore.com is Pearson Education’s online bookstore website. Target customers for MyPearsonStore.com are college/university students who want to buy textbooks.

Search Tool
The original design makes use of four text fields with “Go” button for each field. After performing background user research on how students find textbooks and what information they have when buying textbooks, the search tool is redesigned as two separate areas for ISBN search and Title/Author/Edition search. Usability study result shown that this new design was cleaner and easier to use. See below for before and after screenshots:

Search Result Presentation
The search results were only displayed a list of books with an option to sort by Copyright Year and Author. With user research, the design team knew how to redesign this page based on users’ preferences. The sort drop down menu was replaced by a filtering tool on the side of the page. Users can also perform search from this search result page. See below for before and after screenshots:
